We
will be celebrating our golden anniversary by the year 2003. Looking back, we are grateful to the Lord for the efforts of
our pioneers who took pains in reaching out to the students and graduates
for several decades. Even until
now we can see dedicated students and graduates (some graduates are older
while others belong to the younger generation) who are still involved with
Inter-Varsity. One significant
question came to mind …”What propels them to be involved with
Inter-Varsity all through these years in spite of their busy schedules and
even status in the society?” I
believe the answer for this is the vision of seeing students and graduates
coming into the kingdom of God and making a difference for Christ in their
respective areas of influence. This
vision was penned by our former General Secretary Dr.Isabelo Magalit:
“We
dream that out from the student world will come a steady stream of men and
women who love
nothing more than they love the Lord Jesus Christ and hate nothing more than
they hate sin…”
“…men
and women who will become the pastor-teachers, the lay leaders, and the
theologians/thinkers of our churches…the Christian professionals and
businessmen, the seminary and university professors, the journalists and
media people, the politicians and social reformers…the builders of
Christian homes…”
Here
in Southern Mindanao we are privileged to have graduates who commit to help
the IVCF ministry – who have given their time, efforts, and resources in
anyway possible. Why are they doing this? Because of the vision and
the belief that IVCF ministry is relevant even until now. So long as
there are students and graduates out there, we have a significant role to
play in the kingdom building.
Do we desire continuity in the ministry?
The key here is catching the vision, keeping it and passing it on to
the next generation.
